Macclesfield Half Marathon - 26th September 2010
Message from Colin Ardron...
The race is fast approaching and we are down on entries compared to the same time last year! Are you doing your bit to publicise the race?
It would be great if every member of the club recruited one person to run the race. How you do this is up to you -it could be by encouragement, nagging, bribery, threats or a combination of all of these. If you are not helping on the day, then why not enter the race yourself? Don't want to hear excuses, if my daughter can do it off virtually no training last year, then so can you. She said that completing her first half marathon gave her more satisfaction than eating a giant bag of honey coated popcorn. Now if you knew my daughter's sweet tooth you would be as amazed as I was by this confession. So don't be a wuss, there is still time to get some training in and recruit someone else as well. It's a highly rated event judging by the very positive feedback from previous participants and all proceeds go to two deserving charities, East Cheshire Hospice and the Macclesfield Track Appeal. So what are you waiting for?

Following a desperately disappointing 2009 track and field season in the Young Athletes League where the club was relegated from the Northern Premier Division, it looked as if 2010 might spell further disaster where the first match against Liverpool Pembroke and Southport Waterloo ended with Macclesfield only amassing 438 points to the oppositions 500 plus, a gap of some 100 points..... |

Message from Pete Redhead:
As an ageing fell runner (and some may say not even that), when a member of a team of decent cyclists entered in the world's toughest bike race gets injured 10 weeks before the event, I think I was an obvious first sub. After all I did do paper rounds on a Raleigh Chopper in the late 1970s so know how to ride a bike ( and topped up that practice with the UK ironman last year)......

The results for saturday's Bollington 3 Peaks race can be found here . A great day out was had at the second Bollington 3 Peaks Fell Race, Family Fun Day and Brewery Open Day. The race attracted 107 runners this year, with strong showing of Macclesfield and Glossopdale Harriers. A new course record of 37.09 was taken by English Champion, Simon Bailey, as he sailed home with over 6 minutes to spare. Sally Newman took the ladies prize in 46.58, and all finished in good time. Food and drink followed, and festivities continued into the early hours. Thanks go to the Vale Inn / Bollington Brewing Co. for their excellent facilities and prizes and to Camp 4 for their sponsorship, but especially to all the marshals and helpers for their time, enthusiasm and ability, without whom none of this could have happened. And, at the end of the day, it looks like we have about £310 to go towards the next Bollington festival. Andy Skelhorn |

I've added a couple of links to the "links" section - see here . One is the ahtletics data website with rankings from track, road and fell races (based on data submitted to athletics weekly...). The other is the Runners' World Age Grading calculator. And no it doesn't give Barry Blyth a handicap. It works the other way.... |

I've been rather neglecting the "contacts" page (click on the contacts link above). I've overhauled it using the club magazine back cover, plus I've added the junior team managers. Please check your phone numbers and click on your name. If an email form exists, I've got an email address for you. Send yourself a message to test it. If you don't receive it, open up my contact details (John Bunyan) and confirm your email address with me. If no email form appears, I don't have an email address for you. So again, use my contact form to send me one. I've also added the junior team managers as a PDF document from the track section (click on track above, then use the left hand side menu to click on "team managers".
