Macclesfield Half Marathon - 26th September 2010

Message from Colin Ardron...

The race is fast approaching and we are down on entries compared to the same time last year! Are you doing your bit to publicise the race?

It would be great if every member of the club recruited one person to run the race. How you do this is up to you -it could be by encouragement, nagging, bribery, threats or a combination of all of these. If you are not helping on the day, then why not enter the race yourself? Don't want to hear excuses, if my daughter can do it off virtually no training last year, then so can you. She said that completing her first half marathon gave her more satisfaction than eating a giant bag of honey coated popcorn. Now if you knew my daughter's sweet tooth you would be as amazed as I was by this confession. So don't be a wuss, there is still time to get some training in and recruit someone else as well. It's a highly rated event judging by the very positive feedback from previous participants and all proceeds go to two deserving charities, East Cheshire Hospice and the Macclesfield Track Appeal. So what are you waiting for?

Please view the link at the bottom for the results of yesterday's race, the first race of this year's Club Championship.

The conditions for the race were excellent - apart from a very few patches of mice - with clear skies and virtually no wind.

It was probably the case for all runners that times were a little down because no one has had the opportunity to train on the roads properly in the last month.

The race was very well organised and the goody bag (with a bottle of beer !) was well received - as was the tea and biscuits at the finish !

Matt Bigley was first Macc in 1:21:05.

Kristy Readman was first Macc lady in 1:29:23.

The standings for the club championship are here (or on the menu on the left). Remember there are separate championships for men and ladies, and it's the best 7 races to count, with no more than 3 events fron the same distance category.

Thanks Steve and Chris !
